I created Rahway Main St. as a Laravel application with a Tailwind CSS front end in response to the 2020 COVID-19 outbreak. Businesses were posting on my local community Facebook group for their altered hours and procedures. Religious services were live-streaming regularly. The town even organized a spreadsheet of restaurants within the town that were still offering delivery.
However, these methods of organization fell a little short. Facebook isn’t the best platform for searching up altered hours and procedures. Screenshots of spreadsheets can get outdated easily. Everyone was putting so much effort into keeping their businesses running, and getting the word out there — I wanted to help those efforts. Since I owned the domain rahwaymainst.com for a long time before the pandemic (probably about a year) — I thought I would put the domain name to good use. Having an easily remembered, easily searchable, and SEO friendly domain name for our “digital main street” would be a lot easier for people to remember.
